MOSAICS MARTI

During the second half of the 19th century, cement-based products were developed. One of these derivatives was the cement tiles

In the origins of the manufacture of the cement tiles the presses were manual. Little by little the application of steam surpassed the action of man in favour of the presses. The machines lightened the work, but ultimately it was the hands of the operator that ensured a highly finished and quality product.

Cement tiles reach their maximum splendour with Modernism. Modernist architects design the tiles that appear in the main buildings and works of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

In 1913 Bernat Martí y Arlandis opened his cement tiles workshop in Manresa.

The lineage continued with his sons Bernat, Ricard and Pere. At the end of the 1950s, the pressure of other products (terrazzo, ceramics and stoneware) made the production of cement tiles disappear completely. Despite this, the quality, beauty and originality of the product persisted.

For this reason, during the 1980s, Bernat Martí’s grandchildren recovered the production and family tradition of cement tiles under the name of Mosaics Martí.

It has been a work of recovery of the productive process of the tiles and, in turn, of the auxiliary industry in the rehabilitation of the presses, adjustment of the moulds and the realization of climbs, among others.

At Mosaics Martí we strive every day to offer -in this new 21st century- cement tiles that combine good craftsmanship with the best raw materials and thus obtain the best result in our mosaics.

Cement tiles, exponent of a splendid time in modernism, is presented today, as a product suitable for rehabilitation and for the creation of unique and highly personalized spaces. The designs and quality of modernism and art nouveau are combined with new contemporary designs, which demonstrate the vitality of a product with more than 150 years of history.

Originality consists in returning to the origin
