The Australian toy designer, who’s lived in Barcelona for 18 years, was looking forward to launching her new yoga and mindfulness brand Soulmates as a follow up to the wildly successful Aqua Dragons hatch-and-grow pets, which she had created a few years previously. But when she travelled to a trade show in Hong Kong in early in the year, the mood among her local contacts was downbeat. “They told me there was a new virus, and they were worried about how fast it was spreading,” Amy recalls, from her home in Barcelona, which is now also her office and headquarters of MasksForAll Shop. I was lucky enough to be able to interview Maria Gallart. We got in touch and we agreed to make their tent the meeting point. When we met she greeted me with a huge smile and without realizing it I felt very well received. We thought that going to a coffee shop could be a great place to hold the meeting. The truth is that I had prepared some questions with some pretty clear ideas, but, when we started, Maria conveyed to me so closeness and confidence that I proposed to put a recorder on and just hold a talk. It was an amazing and very accurate idea because we both forgot it was an interview and focused on sharing information from our thoughts and discussed about our shared passion. Esta semana se ha celebrado la 23a edición de la semana de la moda en el “Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau” de la ciudad Condal. Una ciudad cosmopolita llena de vida en la cual se respira belleza en todos los aspectos. Año tras año la 080 Barcelona Fashion acoge a toda la multitud para poder disfrutar del recinto, las instalaciones, las charlas, las galerías, la pasarela y los desfiles entre otras cosas. Subir por las amplias escaleras de piedra hasta llegar a las instalaciones me hace estar viva y sentir una sensación muy agradable. Como estudiante de diseño he tenido la gran suerte de poder conseguir una acreditación. Llevo acudiendo tres años consecutivos y poco a poco he ido ascendiendo. Esta vez he decidido ir sola. Me piden que escriba unas líneas para inaugurar el blog del portal “Made in Barcelona”, lo que me lleva a reflexionar sobre su significado. Somos muchos de los que nos dedicamos a profesiones creativas en la ciudad condal que llevamos años firmando con la palabra “Barcelona” nuestro trabajo. Quizás porque durante mucho tiempo ha sido un sinónimo de diseño y creatividad y, a la vez, de calidad y contemporaneidad.
